AI is becoming an extremely popular tool in digital marketing. Many people now use AI tools to improve their SEO. These tools can save time and give you new ideas — but sadly enough, they are not perfect.
Let’s look at what AI can do for SEO, and where you still need a human touch.
What AI can help with in SEO
1. Generating keyword ideas
AI tools can give you new keyword suggestions based on your topic.
You just type in a few words, and the tool shows many related ideas. This is great for finding long-tail keywords or questions people ask.
You can also use generative AI like ChatGPT to make you a list of keyword ideas.
Example prompt: “Give me long-tail keyword ideas related to ‘Finnish SEO services’”
2. Writing title ideas and meta descriptions
Coming up with a good title or description can take time. AI can quickly give you several options to choose from. Then you can edit and improve the one you like best.
I usually paste my blog post to ChatGPT and ask it to write meta description to the post and include xxx keywords.
3. Creating image alt texts and captions
AI can help you write short image descriptions (alt text) or captions. This makes your website more accessible and better for SEO. But always check that the text really describes the image correctly.
4. Checking grammar and structure
Some AI tools can fix grammar, spelling, or make your writing easier to read. This is helpful if you write in a second language or want to save time editing.
I’ve written a blog post on how ChatGPT can help with proofreading.
What AI should not do (without your help)
1. Publishing full blog posts without checking
AI can write a full blog post — but the quality may be low if the instructions haven’t been good and specific.
It may repeat things, include wrong facts, or sound unnatural. You should always edit AI content carefully before publishing.
2. Replacing your own voice or expertise
AI doesn’t know your business, your audience, or your tone of voice. It can support your work, but it can’t replace your real experience.
Ethics & Quality
When using AI, you need to think about:
- Is the content true and helpful?
- Is it written for people, not just search engines?
- Are you clear when something was made by AI?
Google wants high-quality, helpful content. If you publish low-quality, unhelpful AI text, your rankings might go down.
AI is a helpful assistant — but not a magic solution. Use it to get ideas, write drafts, and save time.
But always review, edit, and add your humanity :).
